Top-seeded Schalken ousted at Kremlin Cup

MOSCOW, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Igor Andreev eliminated top seed and last year's finalist Sjeng Schalken of the Netherlands, 6-3, 6-1, Monday in the $2.2 million Kremlin Cup.

The 20-year-old Moscovite won for the second time in three career ATP matches. Andreev has been honing his craft on the lower levels and won a Futures event in Hungary this season.

Schalken had a seven-match winning streak snapped and lost a chance to earn some points towards a Tennis Masters Cup berth.

In other men's first-round matches, American Vincent Spadea beat Russian Andrei Stoliarov, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, and Olivier Rochus of Belgium defeated Jonas Bjorkman of Sweden, 6-4, 6-4.

Two Russians advanced on the women's side. Vera Zvonareva overcame South African Amanda Coetzer, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2; and Vera Douchevina beat American Lisa Raymond, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
