Major League playoffs begin Tuesday

NEW YORK, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- It's old hat for the New York Yankees, but the Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox know what it's like to be without a World Series championship.

The Yankees, who won four World Series from 1996-00 and own a record 26 titles, host the Minnesota Twins in Game One of the American League Division Series on Tuesday afternoon.

The Red Sox, who have not won the World Series since 1918, open the other ALDS on the road against the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday.

The Cubs, who have not won a World Series since 1908 and are in the postseason for just the fourth time since 1945, open their National League Division Series on the road against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night.

Barry Bonds and the San Francisco Giants begin their quest on Tuesday afternoon as they host the Florida Marlins in Game of their Division Series.
