CORVALLIS, Ore., Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Derek Anderson threw for two touchdowns and ran for another Saturday night as Oregon State ripped Arizona State, 45-17.
With the win, the Beavers ended a seven-game skid against the 24th-ranked Sun Devils. It was the Pac-10 Conference opener for both teams.
Oregon State (4-1, 1-0 Pac-10) built a 24-7 halftime lead on the strength of Anderson's play. He threw a 61-yard scoring strike to Kenny Farley with 4:11 left before halftime, and added a 28-yard touchdown pass to James Newson less than two minutes later.
Andrew Walter struggled for the second straight game after failing to lead the Sun Devils (2-2, 0-1) to the end zone in last week's 21-2 loss at Iowa. He completed just 17-of-42 passes for 228 yards and was intercepted three times.
Oregon State's last victory over Arizona State came in 1993. The Beavers improved to 2-21-1 in the last 24 contests against the Sun Devils.
Anderson was also picked off three times, but managed to throw for 246 yards after completing 15-of-29 passes.
