MIAMI, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Mario Dominguez of Mexico led the final 28 laps Sunday to win the Champ Car World Series Grand Prix Americas at the Bayfront Park street circuit.

Driving a Ford/Lola, Dominguez took the lead from rookie Darren Manning on lap 108, when the Englishman's Ford/Reynard suffered a mechanical problem.

Brazil's Roberto Moreno was second to give Team Hernandez Competition a 1-2 finish. Moreno crossed the finish 5.241 seconds behind Dominguez.

Rookie Mika Salo of Finland, a former Formula One driver, claimed the third podium position, also in a Ford/Lola. Salo led between laps 90-95.

American Jimmy Vasser and rookie Mario Haberfeld of Brazil rounded out the top five.

Pole sitter Adrian Fernandez led a race-high 88 laps, but once he lost the lead on lap 89, he could not regain it. He finished eighth in the 135-lap event.
