Sorenstam tied for LPGA lead

PORTLAND, Ore., Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Annika Sorenstam shot a 4-under-par 68 Saturday to move into a tie for the lead with Beth Daniel and Cristie Kerr after two rounds of the LPGA Safeway Classic.

Daniel grabbed a four-stroke lead Friday with a 10-under 62. Trying for her second win in three months following an eight-year drought, the 46-year-old Hall of Famer struggled with gusty winds and posted a 1-over 73 that left her at 9-under 135.

Kerr also had trouble with the wind but managed a 3-under 69.

Sorenstam negotiated the Columbia Edgewater Country Club course without a bogey. The Swedish superstar sprinkled in four birdies as she tries to defend her title and record a fifth win this season.

The three leaders have combined for 80 LPGA wins -- 79 by Daniel and Sorenstam. Kerr's lone victory came at the Longs Drugs Challenge in April 2002.
