Junqueira wins provisional pole

MIAMI, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- After colliding with a wall in the practice session, Bruno Junqueira captured Friday's provisional pole for the Grand Prix of Americas.

The Brazilian gained an important point in the standings after going around the 1.15-mile street course in 45.024 seconds, averaging 91.951 miles per hour.

With a time two-thirds of a second faster than his closest rival, Junqueira is guaranteed a front row start in Sunday's and moved within 17 points of Tracy in the standings with four races remaining.

In Friday morning's rainy practice session, Junqueira finishd 16th after hitting the inside wall hard enough to break his front suspension.
