CLEVELAND, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Tim Couch, relegated to backup status this season, will start at quarterback for the Cleveland Browns Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals.
He will start in place of Kelly Holcomb, who engineered two scoring drives in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 13-12 win at San Francisco, despite a hairline fractured of the fibula in his right leg and a sprained left ankle.
He officially is listed as questionable this week, and Coach Butch Davis named Couch the starter on Thursday.
"Everybody here knows Tim has won games almost identical to that game Sunday," Davis said. "He's had dramatic fourth quarter comebacks and I'm sure Tim will come in and do a hell of a job this week."
Holcomb likely will not play, and wide receiver Dennis Northcutt will be limited by a fractured rib. He did not play against the 49ers, and we held out of practice on Wednesday.
