TALLADEGA, Ala., Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been cleared to race in Sunday's NASCAR Winston Cup EA Sports 500 at Talladega Speedway.

His status was in doubt after he suffered injuries in last week's crash at Dover International Speedway.

Earnhardt sustained a minor concussion and sprained right foot when he crashed on the 364th lap of the MBNA American 400. He was carried off on a stretcher and taken to a local hospital.

Earnhardt, who is fourth in the Winston Cup standings, needed approval from NASCAR to compete in Sunday's event at Talladega, where he has won a record four consecutive races.

NASCAR made the announcement Wednesday.

"My foot gets a lot better every day," Earnhardt said.
