Bobby Cox gets two-game suspension

NEW YORK, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox was suspended two games and fined an undisclosed amount on Monday because of his tirade in a game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sept. 11.

The suspension was announced by Bob Watson, baseball's vice president of on-field operations.

Cox, who was ejected eight times previously this season, was tossed from the game for prolonged arguing and his comments towards umpires Tim Welke and Chuck Meriweather.

The suspension is expected to begin Tuesday when the Braves, who already have clinched the National League East Division, host Montreal.
