DOVER, Del., Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Ryan Newman's pit crew worked fuel strategy to perfection Sunday to create a victory at the MBNA America 400.

Newman completed a NASCAR Winston Cup season sweep at Dover International Speedway.

He made his final pit stop with 106 laps remaining in the 400-lap race, giving him just enough fuel to record his series-best seventh win of the year. The victory was even more impressive since Newman cut a tire on lap 46 and dropped more than a lap behind.

Jeremy Mayfield was second, matching his best finish of the season. He also was second behind Newman two races ago at Richmond.

Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick and Jeff Gordon rounded out the top five.

Series points leader Matt Kenseth placed ninth and owns a comfortable 436-point lead over Harvick. Jimmie Johnson is 473 points off the pace in third place.
