SHANAHAI, China, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Elena Dementieva beat American Chanda Rubin in a final for the second week in a row Sunday to capture the $585,000 Shanghai Open hardcourt tennis tournament.

Dementieva, the top seed, posted a 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) victory over Rubin, seeded second. In a match that took nearly 90 minutes, Demetieva won her third career title and second in as many weeks, having beaten Rubin, 6-2, 6-1, to win crown in Bali last Sunday.

"It feels unbelievable to win my second title in a row," said Dementieva, a native of Russia. "I came here hoping to keep my good play from last week, but to come all the way through and win the title again is great."

Dementieva improved to 3-2 lifetime against Rubin, and earned $93,000. She now is seventh in the race to qualify for the season-ending championships.

Playing in consecutive finals for the first time her career, Rubin fell to 7-11 lifetime in championship matches.
