VALLEY RANCH, Texas, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Marty Turco, who last season posted the NHL's lowest goals-against average since World War II, has signed a three-year contract with the Dallas Stars.
The signing came one week after he rejected the Stars' offer.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed for Turco, who collected $850,000 last season.
Last week, Turco, a restricted free agent, turned down a three-year, $12 million offer, and Stars executive said the offer would be the Stars' last.
"I'd like to thank Marty for his patience in this process," said General Manager Doug Armstrong. "We look forward to sharing success on the ice over the next three years."
Turco, 28, posted a 1.72 GAA last season, bettering the post-World War II mark of 1.77 set by Al Rollins in 1950-51 and matched by Tony Esposito in 1971-72.
He allowed one goal or fewer in 30 of his 55 appearances last season, was the winning goaltender for the Western Conference in his first All-Star Game appearance, set a franchise record with a 16-game unbeaten streak from December 29-March 25 (14
2), and was named Player of the Month in January, going 8
2 with a 1.94 GAA.
