Buccaneers dump Jim Miller

TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 17 (UPI) -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released veteran quarterback Jim Miller, signed as a free agent in March.

Miller missed the entire preseason while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. He was placed on the physically-unable-to-perform list on Aug. 31.

In 2001, Miller led the Chicago Bears to a 13-3 record and the NFC Central title, their first division crown since 1990, but was plagued by injuries last season.

He made 13 of his 27 career starts in 2001, passing for 2,299 yards and 13 touchdowns with 10 interceptions. In eight starts last season, he completed 180-of-314 passes for 1,944 yards with 13 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

The Buccaneers also have signed wide receiver Charles Lee to a one-year contract and released tight end Daniel Wilcox.

Lee, who was released by the Bucs during training camp, played in one game with the team last season. They needed an extra receiver after losing Joe Jurevicius four to six weeks with a torn MCL in his right knee.
