
COSTA DO SAUIPE, Brazil, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Rain was wreaking havoc at the Brasil Open as a a day after only two first-round matches were completed, 14 were scheduled Tuesday and one completed.
Wild card Franco Ferreiro led No. 8 Kenneth Carlsen of Denmark 6-3, 0-2; American Brian Vahaly leads Argentine qualifier Gaston Etlis, 6-1, 1-2; local product Julio Silva leads Werner Eschauer, 6-5; and Colombian qualifier Michael Quintero also had a 6-5 avantage against Chile's Hermes Gamonal before the rains came again.
Ramon Delgado of Paraguay was up, 6-3, 5-1, when Argentine Mariano Puerta retired from a match that began Monday. Gregory Carraz led Alexander Popp, 4-1, in another match from Monday.
Top seed Rainer Schuettler of Germany was scheduled to play Brazilian Andre Sa but was pushed to Tuesday night.
