Boston 9, Baltimore 2

BALTIMORE, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- David Ortiz hit a homer and drove in four runs and Bill Mueller and Jason Varitek added solo shots Tuesday as Boston cruised to a 9-2 rout of Baltimore.

Ortiz drove a pitch from Orioles starter Damian Moss (1-4) over the right-center field fence and into Eutaw Street for a two-run homer and a 4-0 advantage in the third inning.

It was Ortiz's 26th homer of the year and the 214th of the season for Boston, eclipsing the team record set in 1977. The Red Sox added to that total when Mueller homered in the sixth inning and Varitek added a solo shot in the ninth.

Red Sox starter Derek Lowe (15-6) allowed one run and six hits in six innings for his fourth straight victory.
