N.Y. Giants 23, St. Louis 13

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Sept. 7 (UPI) -- The New York Giants posted a 23-13 win over the St. Louis Rams Sunday afternoon in an NFL season opener matching NFC rivals.

St. Louis quarterback Kurt Warner, a two-time NFL MVP, lost three fumbles, one of which was recovered in the end zone by Giants' defensive end Kenny Holmes for a touchdown.

Warner reportedly sustained a concussion on the play, but stayed in the game, passing for 342 yards and one touchdown, a 37-yarder to Torry Holt with 57 seconds left in the third quarter after the Giants built a 23-6 lead.

While the Giants held Marshall Faulk in check, the Rams did not do the same to his New York running back counterparts, Tiki Barber, who rushed for 146 yards on 24 carries.

Faulk was held to 55 yards rushing and receiving.

It was the fifth consecutive season and sixth time in seven years the teams have met. The Rams had won five straight before the Giants won at St. Louis last September, 26-21.
