BALTIMORE, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Pat Hentgen outdueled Freddy Garcia Sunday afternoon as Baltimore edged Seattle, 2-1.

For the winners, Brian Roberts had a key RBI single as the Orioles dealt a blow to the Mariners' postseason hopes.

Hentgen (6-7) allowed one run and five hits in eight innings for his second win since Aug. 1. The Orioles are just 6-13 in his 19 starts.

Seattle completed a 2-4 road trip, losing two of three against both Baltimore and Tampa Bay, two of the worst teams in the American League. The Mariners trail Oakland by two games in the AL West, and are 1 1/2 games behind Boston in the wild card race.

Garcia (11-14) pitched on three days rest for the first time in his career and allowed both runs and four hits in seven innings. He walked two and struck out seven while falling to 0-2 against Baltimore this season.

Baltimore closer Jorge Julio retired the side in order in the ninth for his 32nd save in 39 chances.
