Buccaneers dump Tony McGee

TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Four days after being cut by Bill Parcells in Dallas, veteran tight end Tony McGee was released Friday by Tampa Bay.

McGee, 32, started all 16 games for the Cowboys last year. He had 23 catches for 294 yards and one touchdown, but did not figure into Parcells' rebuilding plan in Dallas and was waived on Sunday.

Needing a backup tight end after reaching an injury settlement with Rickey Dudley, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers pounced on McGee, signing him on Monday. Friday, Coach Jon Gruden cut McGee and signed tight end Daniel Wilcox, who was waived by the Bucs on Aug. 24.

McGee spent his first nine seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, and is seventh on the team's all-time list with 299 receptions.
