OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Sept. 4 (UPI) -- The National Association of Basketball Coaches has called a mandatory meeting of Division I coaches to discuss unethical conduct.
The meeting will be held Oct. 15 in Chicago, two nights before teams can begin practicing for the 2003-04 season.
"The coaches are to be applauded for hosting this summit and addressing this important issue; it is the right thing to do," NCAA President Myles Brand said. "It demonstrates their commitment to ensuring the integrity of not only college basketball but intercollegiate athletics."
USA Today reported Thursday that NABC executive director Jim Haney is considering penalties for coaches who do not attend.
Haney said the organization's concern over ethical conduct had grown even before the scandal at Baylor, but intensified after it was revealed that Baylor coach Dave Bliss tried to portray slain basketball player Patrick Dennehy as a drug dealer.
