Clarett barred from practice

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Ohio State Coach Jim Tressel announced Tuesday star running back Maurice Clarett would no longer be allowed to practice with the team.

The school is still awaiting word from the NCAA on the length of Clarett's suspension.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported Saturday that Clarett will receive a six-game suspension for violating NCAA rules and giving false statements to campus police.

Ohio State athletic director Andy Geiger said Friday that Clarett had been cleared to resume practice but faces a "multiple-game suspension."

Tressel changed his mind on allowing Clarett to practice and admitted Tuesday that the suspension will be a "long" one.

"Until we get a decision there (on the length of the suspension), I don't think I'm going to allow him to practice," Tressel said. "We're just going to go from there."
