PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- The struggling Philadelphia Phillies have acquired lefthander Valerio De Los Santos from Milwaukee for a player to be named or cash.
De Los Santos appeared in 45 games for the Brewers, going 3-3 with one save and a 4.13 ERA. In 48 innings, he struck out 35 and held opponents to .225 batting average.
He originally was signed by Milwaukee as a non-draft free agent in 1993. In Philadelphia, he joins a slumping team that has faltered mainly because of its ineffective bullpen.
Relievers surrendered eight runs in Monday's 13-9 loss to Boston.
The Phillies also have gotten veteran catcher Kelly Stinnett and cash from Cincinnati for a player to be named later. Stinnett, 33, was hitting .229 with three home runs and 19 RBI in 60 games, and is a .235 career hitter with 54 home runs.
The Phillies (73-64) have lost 10 of their last 14 games, falling one game behind Florida in the National League wild card race.
