Buccaneers ink Tony McGee

TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 2 (UPI) -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have filled their need for depth at the tight end position by signing veteran Tony McGee to a one-year contract.

Financial terms were not disclosed for McGee, who was released Sunday by the Dallas Cowboys. The move also came one day after Tampa Bay reached an injury settlement with tight end Rickey Dudley, who suffered a severe ankle sprain in the team's final preseason game.

"Tony is a solid veteran who has played at a high level for a number of years," said General Manager Rich McKay. "Hopefully, he can come in and contribute to our ballclub."

McGee, 32, started all 16 games for Dallas last year, and had 23 catches for 294 yards and a touchdown. He spent his first nine seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals and is seventh on the team's all-time list with 299 receptions.

To create a spot on the roster, the Buccaneers released offensive tackle Lance Nimmo, a 2003 fourth-round draft pick out of West Virginia.
