CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Quarterback Matt Schaub was injured Saturday on Virginia's first drive and backup Anthony Martinez led the way in a 27-0 ACC victory over Duke.
Schaub, who broke or tied 10 school records last year, threw for 84 yards on Virginia's first drive before getting sacked by Duke linebacker DeAndre White. He suffered an apparent shoulder injury and did not return, ending his streak of throwing a touchdown in 14 straight games.
Martinez made his debut and completed 6-of-15 passes for 76 yards. Tailback Wali Lundy, who scored four touchdowns in the Continental Tire Bowl last year, rushed 21 times for 88 yards and one touchdown.
Lundy's three-yard TD run gave the Cavaliers a 10-0 lead just over three minutes into the second quarter. Martinez added his first TD pass with a nine-yard connection to tight end Heath Miller for a 17-0 cushion at halftime.
