HOUSTON, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Home runs by Mark Loretta and Phil Nevin Friday night helped boost the San Diego Padres past the Houston Astros, 7-1.

Despite the setback, Houston stayed tied with St. Louis atop the NL Central.

Adam Eaton (8-0) gave up six hits and one run through seven innings, the lone blemish being a solo homer from Jeff Bagwell.

The homers by Loretta and Nevin both came in the first inning.
