SAN DIEGO, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- The San Diego Padres have activated infielder Keith Lockhart from the 15-day disabled list.
They also recalled lefthander Kevin Walker from Triple-A Portland of the Pacific Coast League.
The Padres had two open roster spots after trading infielder Lou Merloni to Boston Thursday night for a minor leaguer, and after losing pitcher Jaret Wright to Atlanta on a waiver claim.
Lockhart, 38, played in 53 games for the Padres prior to being placed on the DL with a strained lower back on July 4, batting .253 with three homers and six RBI.
Over parts of 10 major league seasons, Lockhart is a career .261 hitter. He spent six years with Atlanta.
Walker, 26, went 3-1 with a 4.08 ERA in 34 games with Portland. He was placed on the 60-day DL in May before going on a lengthy rehab assignment.
