TOLEDO, Ohio, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Phil Mickelson, who has won 21 PGA Tour titles and more than $23 million in his pro golf career, will have a tryout Friday with the Toledo Mud Hens.
Toledo is the Class AAA affiliate of the Detroit Tigers.
Mickelson's hope is to land a one-time-only spot on Toledo's pitching staff this weekend. While Mickelson plays golf lefthanded, he does everything else righty, including throwing a baseball.
"This is a lifetime dream of mine and I'm extremely grateful to the Toledo and Detroit organizations for giving me the chance to live it," he said. "I know which sport is mine, but I just could not pass on this opportunity."
Whether or not Mickelson gets his chance is up to Mud Hens Manager Larry Parrish, pitching coach Jeff Jones and the Tigers.
