SEATTLE, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Defensive tackle Chad Eaton of the Seattle Seahawks has been placed on injured reserve because of his ailing right knee.

The Seahawks reportedly are considering reaching an injury settlement with Eaton, who has had two surgeries on his right knee since May. He had started every game the last two seasons.

If the club reaches an injury settlement with him, Eaton, 31, would become a free agent but could re-sign with Seattle, according to the Seattle Times.

"There are options we have at the club's disposal, and if Chad's willing to do some things, we'll just have to see," said Coach Mike Holmgren. "It would be premature to talk about anything right now. We'll see how this thing goes."

A solid run-stopper, the 6-5, 305-pounder has recorded 94 tackles and two sacks in the last two seasons. He spent the previous five years with New England.

Eaton will be replaced by Norman Hand, acquired in a draft-day trade from New Orleans.
