Jets QB suffers broken left wrist

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Aug. 23 (UPI) -- New York Jets quarterback Chad Pennington, the NFL's leader in passer rating last season, broke his left wrist Saturday night.

Pennington suffered a fractured dislocation in the second quarter of the New York Jets' preseason game against the New York Giants and will undergo surgery.

It is Pennington's non-throwing wrist.

It appears the Jets will likely start the regular season with veteran Vinny Testaverde as their starting quarterback. Testaverde lost his starting job to Pennington after the Jets started 1-3 last season.

Pennington led the Jets to an 8-4 record the rest of the way and an AFC East title. He completed 69 percent of his passes for 3,120 yards and 22 touchdowns with six interceptions for a rating of 104.2.

Last Saturday, Michael Vick, the quarterback who led the Atlanta Falcons to a playoff berth last season, suffered a broken right fibula.
