Capriati, Davenport reach final

NEW HAVEN, Conn., Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Lindsay Davenport, who has not lost a set this week, reached the final of the Pilot Pen tournament Friday with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Elena Dementieva.

The top seed, Davenport will play in the title match for the fourth straight year. She was runner-up on each occasion to Venus Williams, who is not defending her title because of an abdominal injury that also caused her to withdraw from next week's U.S. Open.

Dementieva was coming off a 6-1, 6-1 rout of Cara Black of Zimbabwe in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Davenport, who improved to 7-3 all-time against Dementieva, will play third-seeded Jennifer Capriati in an all-American final on Saturday.

Capriati was leading second-seeded Amelie Mauresmo, 6-3, 3-1, when the Frenchwoman had to retire with a stomach ailment.
