ASHBURN, Va., Aug. 21 (UPI) -- The Washington Redskins, desperate for help along the defensive line have acquired tackle Martin Chase from New Orleans.

The Saints received a seventh-round choice in next year's draft.

Chase played in 41 games for the Saints over the last three seasons, with four starts. He had 48 tackles and one sack.

"Martin was a solid performer for us over the last three years and this looks like a great opportunity for him," said New Orleans General Manager Mickey Loomis. "We put a priority on building through the draft, and picking up an extra draft choice in this situation made sense."

The Redskins lost defensive tackle Brandon Noble for the season last Saturday against New England. He suffered three torn knee ligaments and a dislocated kneecap in the contest.

The Redskins signed Noble to a four-year contract in the offseason, and planned to start him at left defensive tackle alongside Jermaine Haley, another free agent signee.

The Redskins could not get either Ted Washington from Chicago or Lional Dalton from Denver.
