Woods seeks win at NEC Invitational

AKRON, Ohio, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- The World Golf Championship-NEC Invitational begins Thursday with Tiger Woods seeking to get his game in gear.

Woods is the only player to have won this tournament in its three years at Firestone Country Club, but he has just completed his worst major championship season.

He failed to break par at last week's PGA Championship and his season will end without a major title for the first time in five years.

Woods still has the best stroke average (68.38) on the tour this year, nearly half a shot better than anyone else.

The field consists of 86 players, including members of last year's Ryder Cup and this year's Presidents Cup teams, anyone else ranked in the top 50 in the world and winners of selected other tournaments.
