N.Y. Mets 8, Colorado 0

NEW YORK, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Steve Trachsel retired the first 17 batters before settling for a brilliant one-hitter Monday afternoon as the New York Mets routed Colorado, 8-0.

Trachsel (12-7) did not allow a runner until a double by Colorado starter Chin-Hui Tsao with two outs in the top of the sixth.

The 32-year-old righthander, who also pitched a one-hit shutout to beat Anaheim, 8-0, on June 15th, notched the 25th one-hitter for the Mets, who have never had a no-hitter in franchise history.

He did not walk a batter and struck out three in his second complete game of the season. At the plate, he went 2-for-3 and scored a run.

Mike Piazza belted a two-run homer in the first inning and finished with three RBI for the Mets, who extended their season-high winning streak to six games by sweeping a four-game series against Colorado for the first time.

Tsao (2-1) gave up seven runs and 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings to take the loss.
