Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
NEW YORK, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- The New York Rangers kept one of their marquee players Wednesday, agreeing to terms with All-Star right wing Alexei Kovalev.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Kovalev, who was drafted 15th overall in 1991 by the Rangers, returned to the club in an eight-player trade with Pittsburgh on Feb. 10. The Russian forward collected 10 goals and three assists in 24 games with New York after notching 27 goals and setting up 37 in 54 contests with the Penguins.
"As I said when I returned to the Rangers last season, I am happy to be back in New York with such a great organization," Kovalev said. "I am committed to playing a major role in a successful season for the Rangers and our fans."
An 11-year veteran, Kovalev made his second All-Star appearance and first as a starter on Feb. 2 in Sunrise, Fla.
