NY Mets 9, San Francisco 2

NEW YORK, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Activated from the disabled list prior to the game, Mike Piazza hit a two-run homer Wednesday night in carrying New York to a 9-2 win over San Francisco.

Piazza drove in five runs in his first contest for the first time since May 17.

New York has taken the first two games of the three-game series against the Western Division-leading Giants.

Piazza snapped a 1-1 tie in the third inning with his 344th home run as a catcher, leaving him seven shy of Carlton Fisk's major league record for backstops. He also delivered an RBI single in the fourth and a two-run single in the seventh.

Steve Trachsel (11-7) recorded the win, allowing one run and four hits in seven innings. He blanked the Giants after giving up a sacrifice fly to Marquis Grissom in the top of the first.
