DETROIT, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- The Detroit Tigers have come to terms with righthander Kyle Sleeth, the third overall pick in the 2003 First-Year Player Draft.
The 6-5, 185-pounder just finished his junior year at Wake Forest and matched an NCAA Division I record with a 26-game winning streak from March 2001-March 2003. He was 14-0 with a 2.97 ERA in 2002.
A finalist for the Golden Spikes Award, given to college baseball's best player, Sleeth was 7-3 with a 2.81 ERA this past season. He struck out 102 in 96 innings and limited opponents to a .220 batting average.
"Sleeth is a big righthander with quality stuff and a proven winner," said Director of Scouting Greg Smith.
Sleeth finished his collegiate career second among all pitchers in Wake Forest with 31 wins, third with an .838 winning percentage, and fourth with 293 innings pitched and 271 strikeouts.
