Schulters diagnosed with Bell's Palsy

NASHVILLE, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Defensive back Lance Schulters of the Tennessee Titans has Bell's palsy, a virus that has partially paralyzed the left side of his face.

Schulters had been bothered by an abcessed tooth and numbness that affected his eyelid and the left side of his mouth. After having an emergency root canal, he underwent tests for the numbness and was diagnosed with Bell's palsy.

"We felt because of the situation with the face and the numbness that it was tied to the root canal," said Coach Jeff Fisher. "The medical staff has come to the conclusion that they are separate issues and has been diagnosed with that. It is a condition that can be treated, but it is a condition that may very well get worse before it gets better."

The 6-2, 207-pounder signed as a free agent with the Titans last season and matched a career-high with six interceptions. He spent his first four seasons with San Francisco and was named to the Pro Bowl in 1999.
