ALBANY, N.Y., Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Tight end Jeremy Shockey of the New York Giants has apologized for his latest controversial comments.
In an article to appear this week in New York Magazine, Shockey refers to Dallas Coach Bill Parcells as a "homo."
"I'll make him pay when we play them, the homo," Shockey is quoted as saying."
He met with Coach Jim Fassell at training camp on Saturday, then issue an apology for his comments, but not to Parcells.
"I want to apologize to my family, my teammates, and the Giants organization," Shockey said. "I did not intend to disrespect anyone. I understand that some of my comments have been irresponsible."
Reporter Chris Smith of the New York Daily News says he has the interview on tape.
"He ended this monologue (on Parcells) by calling him 'the homo,'" Smith said. "It's 100 percent accurate."
Shockey made headlines as a rookie last year for his insensitive comments about gays on Howard Stern's radio show. He maintains Smith took quotes out of context.
"He made it clear to me that some of my recent comments are completely unacceptable and I understand where he's coming from," Shockey said of his meeting with Fassel.
Parcells coached the Giants to Super Bowl titles in 1986 and '90.
