
INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Chasity Melvin scored 19 points and Helen Darling keyed a second-half run as Cleveland held on for a 66-62 WNBA victory over Indiana.
The Rockers pulled into a tie with the Fever for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with eight games remaining. Cleveland has won the first two meetings with Indiana this season and hosts Sunday's finale of the home-and-home series.
The Rockers never trailed in the final 25 minutes and used a 13-4 run in the second half to take their largest lead of the game, 60-45 with 7:04 remaining.
The Fever responded by scoring 14 of the next 16 points and pulled within 62-59 on a layup by Natalie Williams with 33 seconds left. But Penny Taylor and LaToya Thomas each made a pair of free throws in the final 29 seconds.
Tamika Catchings scored 21 points for Indiana.
