ATLANTA, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Guard Steve Kerr, who won five championships during a 14-year NBA career, announced his retirement Thursday.

He was promptly hired as an analyst by Turner Network Television.

The announcement came less than two months after Kerr captured his fifth title and second with the San Antonio Spurs.

"It was tough to pass up the opportunity to play another year for the Spurs, but I'm so thrilled about the opportunity to work with TNT," Kerr said. "It was the only way I'd pass up another year of playing in the NBA."

Kerr, 37, leaves the NBA as the most accurate three-point shooter in league history at 45.4 percent. He also holds the single-season record for long-range accuracy at 52.4 percent in 1994-95.

Kerr's other three championships came with the Chicago Bulls from 1995-98.
