NEW YORK, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Enrique Wilson hit a grand slam Thursday afternoon to help the New York Yankees overcome the Texas Rangers, 7-5.

The Yankees were able to overcome another shaky relief effort by Mariano Rivera. After coughing up the lead in losing Wednesday night's game, he allowed a run in the ninth before converting his 22nd save in 27 chances. He has given up at least one run in three straight appearances.

Rafael Palmeiro hit a three-run homer off Mike Mussina (12-6) in the first inning, but Wilson belted his third career grand slam against Joaquin Benoit in the second.

Alex Rodriguez had a solo homer for the Rangers.

Jeff Nelson made his Bronx return a triumphant one, getting rookie Mark Teixeira to fly out with the bases loaded to end the eighth. He was re-acquired by the Yankees on Wednesday for reliever Armando Benitez.
