SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- The United States men's basketball team fell to Puerto Rico in the Pan Am Games bronze medal game Wednesday, 76-70.
The Americans were relegated to playing for bronze after losing to Brazil in Tuesday's semifinals. The poor play continued Wednesday as the Americans fell behind by 23 points in the first half and never recovered.

The gold medal went to Brazil, which trounced the host Dominican Republic, 89-62.
In 14 previous Pan Am Games, the United States had failed to medal just once - that being in 1971 with a team led by Bob McAdoo. The Americans have not won a Pan Am gold since 1983.
