Kansas City 13, Chicago 9

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Aaron Guiel hit a key three-run double as part of a seven-run sixth inning Monday night as Kansas City beat the Chicago White Sox, 13-9.

The Royals utilized aggressive base-running, three sacrifice bunts and a sacrifice fly as they opened a three-game lead over the White Sox atop the American League Central Division.

In the win, Royals' rightfielder Michael Tucker left the contest after he fouled a pitch off his right knee. X-rays were negative. He suffered a bone bruise beneath, but returned to the dugout on crutches.

In the sixth, Carlos Beltran was hit by a pitch from Keith Ginter. Because plate umpire Mark Wegner had warned both teams after Guiel and Chicago's Frank Thomas were hit by pitches in the first inning, Ginter and Chicago Manager Jerry Manuel were ejected.

Runelvys Hernandez (6-4) got the win despite giving up six runs and eight hits in five innings. Recently acquired Al Levine pitched a perfect ninth for his first save of the season.
