U.S. women upset Brazil at Pan Am Games

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- JamieCarey made a record 6-of-6 3-pointers and scored 20 points Monday as the U.S. women's team stunned Brazil, 77-64 at the Pan Am Games.

The U.S. improved to 2-1 in their six-team group and holds the tiebreaker over Brazil. With games remaining against Argentina (1-2) and the winless Dominican Republic, it is virtually assured of being one of the four nations advancing to the medal round.

A guard from Texas, Carey broke Teresa Edwards' 12-year-old single-game accuracy mark.The Americans were 10-of-16 from the arc, setting Pan Am records for 3-pointers made and attempted.

After Brazil pulled into a 58-58 tie with 8:01 remaining, the U.S. rattled off the next 16 points.

Also, Cuba routed Argentina, 83-57, to improve to 3-0. Canada (1-2) won 81-51 over the Dominican Republic (0-3).
