Furyk posted a 21-under 267 to take home $720,000 and push his yearly earnings over the $4 million. It was his ninth career victory.

After capturing his first major title in June, Sunday's win established another milestone for Furyk as it gives the Pennsylvania native two wins in the same season for the first time in his career.

Woods, the defending champion, was trying for his fifth victory of 2003 but settled for a tie for second with Geoff Ogilvy, Briny Baird and second-round leader Chris DiMarco.

Woods, who began the day four shots behind Furyk, had a 6-under 66 that left him at 269.

Brickyard 400 Harvick's first win of seaso

INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Kevin Harvick, who replaced the late Dale Earnhardt two years ago, joined the NASCAR racing legend Sunday as a Brickyard 400 winner.

Harvick became the first pole-winner to capture the Brickyard 400, giving team owner Richard Childress his second victory at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and first since Earnhardt won this race in 1995.

Harvick led the first 17 laps and hung around the front of field until making his winning move, passing Jamie McMurray on lap 146. He defeated Winston Cup points leader Matt Kenseth by 2.758 seconds.

McMurray was third, followed by three-time Brickyard 400 winner Jeff Gordon and defending champion Bill Elliott.

It was Harvick's first win of the season and fourth of his NASCAR career.

Reigning Winston Cup champion Tony Stewart was in 10th place and could not get through traffic to race with the leaders.

Fleisher, the first-round leader, made up a stroke with a 5-under but failed in a bid for his second win of the season. Gilder carded a final-round 68.

Another shot back were D.A. Weibring and Tom Purtzer.

Under a new format this year, former Edmonton Oilers goaltender Grant Fuhr captured the NHL Drive Fore the Goal. Three months before being enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame, Fuhr shot a 7-over 78 to win by two shots.
