WASHINGTON, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- The Washington Wizards announced Sunday that assistant general manager Rod Higgins will be leaving the organization.

Higgins, who spent three years with the team, reached a mutual agreement with team president Ernie Grunfeld on Friday.

"Rod and I both agree that parting company at this time is best for both parties," Grunfeld said. "Rod has worked very hard over the last three years and has been a true professional during this transition period."

Higgins joined the Wizards in 2000 after spending six seasons as an assistant coach with Golden State. He was the last front office hire by former president of basketball operations Michael Jordan, who was fired in May.

"I'm grateful to the Wizards for the opportunity," he said. "I enjoyed my three years in Washington and wish this team only the best in the future."

Higgins' departure completes a front office housecleaning of sorts. Gone also are coach Doug Collins and director of player personnel Fred Whitfield.
