CONCORD, Mass., Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Bruce Fleisher recorded a 7-under 65 Friday that put him one shot in front after the opening round of the FleetBoston Classic.

Tom Purtzer was alone in second place.

The Champions Tour event unveiled a new format this year in which 12 NHL players, including former Boston Bruins star Cam Neely, will compete in the final two rounds.

That was added incentive to Purtzer, who won his first Champions Tour event earlier this year at the SBC Classic.

"All I was trying to do was get in the last 12 groups to play with one of the hockey players," Purtzer said. "Hockey is my favorite sport to watch. It's incredible what they can do on skates. I always admire what they can do."

Jay Sigel, James Mason, David Eger, John Harris and Dick Mast shared third place at 67.
