ARLINGTON, Texas, July 31 (UPI) -- Shortstop Alex Rodriguez, easily the highest-paid player in baseball, has indicated his frustration about playing for a loser.
Rodriguez, who signed a record-setting 10-year, $252 million contract before the 2001 season, says he would accept a trade if it would better the Rangers.
"Losing is something you never want to get used to," Rodriguez said. "After a while you just want to make sure you taste winning again. I'm only 28 and I'm very young, but I think we all want to see improvements from the top to the bottom. I think I would do something contractually where I could go somewhere else and make it easier for them."
Rodriguez, whose deal is the largest in U.S. sports history, is locked in through the 2007 season, and the Rangers appear to be on a youth movement because they have no money to pay talented free agents.
He has 123 home runs and 342 RBI since joining the Rangers.
