His deal to stay with New Jersey is believed to be worth $99 million for six years.

"We are obviously delighted to re-sign Jason to a long-term contract," said New Jersey President Rod Thorn. "He is an elite performer who has been instrumental in the team's success over the past two seasons."

Kidd, who also has played for Phoenix and Dallas, has career averages of 14.7 points, 6.4 rebounds and 9.4 assists in 653 contests. In two seasons with the Nets, he has averaged 16.7 points and 9.3 assists.

He likely will have veteran center Alonzo Mourning as a teammate next season. Mourning, a seven-time All-Star, signed a four-year, $20 million contract on July 16.
