Rangers place Juan Gonzalez on DL

ARLINGTON, Texas, July 23 (UPI) -- The Texas Rangers, who tried to trade Juan Gonzalez earlier this month, Wednesday him on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right calf.

Gonzalez has not played since being removed from Saturday's game at Tampa Bay in the second inning after injuring himself running the bases.

It is the ninth career trip to the DL for Gonzalez, who is batting .294 with 24 homers and 70 RBI in 82 games this season.

Earlier this month, Gonzalez excercised a no-trade clause in his contract, blocking a deal that would have sent him to the Montreal Expos.
