
KANSAS CITY, Mo., July 22 (UPI) -- Rich Harden tossed seven strong innings Monday night to lead Oakland past Kansas City, 6-1.
In the win, two Kansas City relievers combined to issue three bases-loaded walks in a five-run ninth.
Harden, 21, combined for an 11-4 record and 2.74 ERA with 108 strikeouts in 101 2/3 innings for Double-A Midland and Triple-A Sacramento before his contract was purchased Thursday.
In his first major league start, he allowed one run and four hits, walked two and struck out four, but got no decision.
Mark Ellis capped the scoring with a two-run single as the A's snapped a four-game skid.
Kansas City starter Kyle Snyder, activated from the disabled list before the game, turned in his best performance of the season. The righthander allowed one run and three hits in seven innings with one walk and one strikeout.
